HBO is developing a new series derived from Game of Thrones which will take place before the events of House Of The Dragon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network is now moving forward with its long-debated Aegon conquest idea.

The outlet reports that HBO is partnering with Mattson Tomlinwho performed uncredited work in Batman of Matt Reeves and is co-writing its next sequel The Batman Part II. He also wrote the action comic adaptation of Keanu Reeves BRZRKR and an animated series Terminator which also presents for Netflix.

What the new Game of Thrones prequel will be about

The show would tell the story of how Aegon and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, used their army and three dragons to conquer six of the seven kingdoms in Westeros with the exception of Dorne. In doing so, Aegon I became the first king of Westeros, the first to sit on the Iron Throne, and the founder of the Targaryen Dynasty. Those events took place approximately 300 years before the events of game of Thrones.

Since the main Game of Thrones series concluded in 2019, several prequels (and one sequel idea) have been put in development, although some are considered no longer active.

So far, the franchise has only greenlit two additional series: House Of The Dragonwhich will premiere its second season this winter, and A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knightwhich begins production this year and is based on the Dunk and Egg stories.

In January, George R.R. Martin revealed that he is also working on several animated projects with HBO, all of which would be set in the world of Song of ice and fire.

“None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we’re getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them,” he wrote on his blog.
