British King Charles III suffered from cancer. has returned to London after a week’s stay at his Sandringham country estate. The king landed on the grounds of Buckingham Palace by helicopter and then traveled the short distance to his Clarence House residence by car, the British news agency PA reported. He and his wife Queen Camilla (76) were spotted in the back seat of a limousine behind rain-soaked windows. Charles appeared to smile and waved to onlookers.
The palace recently announced that the 75-year-old monarch was suffering from cancer. It is not known what type it is – only that it is not prostate cancer. Therapy is said to have already begun. There was now speculation that the king may have returned to London for further treatment. At the weekend he had already appeared briefly at church in Sandringham and thanked everyone in a message for the many well wishes and encouraging messages.
Doctors have advised Charles not to attend any public appointments during his cancer treatment – but according to the palace, he will continue to carry out state affairs.
Sandringham House in the eastern English county of Norfolk has long been a retreat for the royals. They usually spend the Christmas season and the New Year there. Charles’ grandfather George VI, father of Queen Elizabeth II, died at Sandringham. His father, Prince Philip, also retreated there for extended periods towards the end of his life.
