Prince Harry and Meghan have relaunched their website: their website is visually reminiscent of royal times. That doesn’t go down well with everyone.
You have to look very closely not to mistake Prince Harry and Meghan’s newly launched website this week for one from Buckingham Palace: the couple beams at visitors on a royal blue background, and Meghan’s personal royal coat of arms can be read underneath : “The office of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex”. The BBC describes the ex-royals’ new website as “almost majestic”, saying it is reminiscent of that of ex-presidents.
The whole thing is causing a stir in Great Britain again, but let’s start again: The new website can be found under “sussex.com” instead of the previous company name “archewell.com”. At least with the title, Harry and Meghan are approaching the royal flair of their old homepage from royal times. Until 2020 it could be found at “sussexroyal.com” and documented their activities as active members of the royal family. There is still a reference to the site in the new structure, but otherwise there is surprisingly little to be read about the royal family in the texts.
Instead, the two present themselves in two short biographies with key points that are important to them. Harry describes himself as a veteran, philanthropist and ambassador for mental health and environmental protection. Meghan’s feminist activities and entries in lists of the most influential women in the world are highlighted. On the new website, the two of them as personalities come into focus more clearly than before, where the company name was in the foreground.
Harry and Meghan are not allowed to use their title commercially
Another possible reason for the new website structure could be that your charity organization and your business company are better marked separately: “Archewell Foundation” and “Archewell Productions” can now be accessed separately, as their own sub-items. Harry and Meghan have faced backlash in the past because they appeared to be using their royal connections to make money. Typically, members of the royal family are not allowed to use their titles for commercial purposes. The couple is said to have agreed this with Queen Elizabeth when they left the palace in 2020, but it repeatedly presented her with difficulties.
In the British tabloid media, exactly this aspect of the website was interpreted differently: Since the URL with “sussex.com” is again reminiscent of the ducal title, critics see a breach of the agreement with the now deceased Queen, “if not actually, then at least in reality spirits,” as one source claims. It is astonishing that the couple does not see how indecent the use of the title of duke is, another source is quoted as saying. There is even talk of a possible shutdown of the website and – once again – of the withdrawal of royal titles.

Look, we’re in love: Meghan and Harry are flirting and getting up close and personal with the fans
Background: Due to their withdrawal from the palace in 2020, Harry and Meghan have to forego being addressed as “Royal Highnesses”, and Harry also had to give up his military titles at the time. They were only allowed to keep the title of duke, a gift from the Queen for the couple’s wedding. And Harry remains a prince from birth. Both would be very difficult to take away from the couple; Parliament would have to take action to revoke the titles. It is unlikely that the court will put up with this public stress, even if that is exactly what is being asked for from time to time.
Harry and Meghan themselves see no problem with using their titles for their website – that’s just their name, a source close to the couple said. New projects have not yet been announced on the homepage, but Meghan has revealed to the industry service “Variety” what is going on with her podcast: The 42-year-old is moving from “Spotify” to the podcast company “Lemonanda” and wants a new audio there -Introduce show.
