Dave Grohl: He’s at the grill for a good cause

Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl spent Super Bowl Sunday barbecuing for homeless people during the game – for 24 hours.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl (55) took part in a charity campaign during the Super Bowl final on Sunday. He grilled for the homeless for more than 24 hours. Los Angeles nonprofit Hope the Mission, which shows the musician and his friends grilling pork chops for the Woodlands Family Shelter in Woodland Hills, California.

In the clips, the “Everlong” performer can be seen making barbecue sauce and helping those in need.

“Happy Super Bowl Sunday from Dave Grohl and Hope the Mission!” says the commentary on the clip. “Dave and his friends grilled 70 pork sandwiches for over 24 hours. Now we are here at The Woodlands Family Shelter sharing this delicious meal with our participants. Thank you to Dave and his friends from his studio for joining us “Hung out and spread love with a hot meal.”

The organization’s mission is to “prevent, reduce and eliminate poverty, hunger and homelessness,” according to its website.

Further charity campaigns in Australia and Los Angeles

It’s not the first time that Dave Grohl has shown his charitable side. In December 2023, he took time off from the Foo Fighters’ Australian tour to volunteer in Melbourne.

After the legendary rock band – consisting of lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Grohl, bass guitarist Nate Mendel, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett, rhythm guitarist Pat Smear, organist Rami Jaffee and drummer Josh Freese – had performed in Melbourne in the previous days, Grohl joined “The Big Umbrella”, a street kitchen for the homeless. There the rocker handed out food for several hours at Federation Square in Melbourne.

In February 2023, Grohl grilled for 24 hours for “Hope the Mission” in Los Angeles. At that time, the former Nirvana drummer and some friends prepared more than 500 meals for three shelters in the city. Grohl arrived with a huge smoker trailer in tow. In it, they prepared smoked brisket, ribs and sides like coleslaw and grilled beans.

The 19-time Grammy Award winner personally covered all expenses and grilled outdoors during a rainstorm. While the meat was cooking, he took a nap in the parking lot, .
