Wedding proposal on lovers’ day: Australia’s head of government shows the world his romantic side.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese (60) asked for his girlfriend Jodie Haydon’s hand in marriage on Valentine’s Day on Wednesday. “She said yes,” Albanese wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter) alongside a photo of the happily smiling couple. Clearly visible on it: the ring on Haydon’s hand resting on Albanese’s chest.
They were both happy to share the news, said Albanese in a statement also published on “It’s wonderful that I have found a partner with whom I want to spend the rest of my life.”
Haydon also thanked everyone for the many warm congratulations from friends and family, but also “from people we don’t know.” Albanese preferred to avoid the indirect question about a wedding date. He planned the details of his proposal for a long time – from the special date to the ring to the exact location. The discussions about how the wedding would proceed would now be held between themselves, said Albanese, to his fiancée’s smile.
According to the media, Haydon and the Labor Party politician have known each other for around four years. Albanese has an adult son with his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt.
