Tourism in Argentina: the beautiful little town less than 150 km from Salta

The province of Salta offers incredible places for its landscapes and activities and that are totally unknown. Among them is Cachi, a fascinating hidden townrecognized as one of the most picturesque in Argentina thanks to its spectacular postcards.

Where is Cachi?

Cachi is located 146 kilometers from the city of Salta and 2531 meters above sea level. This little town combines surprising colonial architecture with unmissable mountain landscapes, some more than 5,000 meters above sea level.

With only 2,600 inhabitants, Cachi is a small town where tranquility reigns. Beyond the landscapes, the regional gastronomy stands out: in the restaurants, cafes and taverns you can try humitas, tamales, locro and empanadas, typical homemade foods from the Province of Argentina.

What to do in Cachi

First of all, The town is surrounded by impressive mountains that are ideal for mountaineering. Afterwards, the plan of taking walks with the spectacular views and also getting to know the town is highly chosen: the Plaza 9 de Julio, the Archaeological Museum and the churches.

How to get to Cachi from Salta

To get to Cachi by car from Salta, you must take Provincial Route N°68 to Chicoana and after accessing Provincial Route N°33 that runs through the Escoipe ravine to then enter the winding Cuesta del Obispo. Then you cross the famous TinTin straight and finally reach the town on the slopes of the Calchaqui River. Another option is along National Route 40which connects to the north with La Poma and Los Andes.
