People: Pocher meets Wendler – and gives him some advice

Comedians Oliver Pocher and Michael Wendler once dueled for entertainment on TV. Then the singer catapulted himself into the media sidelines. Now both men have apparently met privately.

Comedian Oliver Pocher (45) says he met privately in the USA with the heavily criticized pop singer Michael Wendler (51). Pocher reported in an episode of the Podimo podcast “The Pochers! Freshly Recycled” published on Friday that the singer, who was noticed for his trivialization of the Nazis, asked him if he would like to “come over” together with his ex-wife Sandy Meyer-Wölden (40) appears.

Wendler, who has lived in Florida for several years, knew about Pocher’s stay in the USA. “Then I met with him and listened to what he had to say about how the last three years have gone for him,” reported Pocher. In his opinion, these years were “below average” for Wendler, who likes to talk about himself in the third person.

That had to be understood as an understatement, because in recent years the pop bard, who was born in Dinslaken, has made a name for himself more with public scandals than with music. In 2020 he caused a scandal when he accused the federal government of “gross and serious violations of the constitution” with a video on Corona policy.

The broadcaster RTL, which had hired him as a juror on the casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”, immediately distanced itself. After Wendler made another statement about Germany as a “concentration camp,” he was completely cut out of the format. After that he no longer played any roles in major television productions.

Controversial posts on Telegram

Wendler also repeatedly shared posts with false claims and extreme content on the Telegram platform. Regarding the corona pandemic, which he described as a “fake pandemic”, he shared a post from another user with the title “Vaccination – the final solution to the question of humanity” – an allusion to the National Socialist policy of extermination against Jews.

Pocher reported that he had now asked Wendler “why he was talking such nonsense”. He told him that no one cared what he thought. The question was “what’s actually going on with him?” “I don’t understand any of this,” said Pocher.

The two men have a long history that publicly resembled more of a rivalry. Pocher has already made a number of jokes about Wendler. The culmination of a media dispute was a duel staged as a television show (“Pocher vs. Wendler – no more fun!”). That was before Wendler’s big scandal.

Future prospects and entertainment value

“In a certain form,” the singer also showed insight, said Pocher. “So of course he won’t do it like that anymore, that’s clear somehow. Because he completely dismantled his career into all its individual parts.” And Wendler also wants to go back to Germany and perform. Pocher showed some sympathy: “I think it has a certain entertainment value.” He told Wendler that he should “stand up” in Germany and “answer two or three questions.”

Several media outlets had previously reported on the podcast, which was recorded during an appearance by Pocher and Meyer-Wölden in Berlin. Pocher also talked about his comedy appearance in Las Vegas.
