Spreewaldkrimi: Christian Redl: Aging is different than expected

Cristian Redl has millions of fans and has been accompanying his leading actor for a long time. He thinks about how much he has in common with the fictional character.

Character actor Christian Redl has been playing a TV inspector for almost 20 years and thinks a lot about his life in comparison to his own. “The Spreewald crime thriller, which I have been shooting for 18 years now, not only documents Inspector Krüger’s aging – it also documents my own personal ‘getting old’,” said the actor in a PR interview for the production. “It’s interesting to watch.”

The new episode “Spreewaldkrimi – Till death do you part” will be shown this Monday (February 19th) in the Second’s linear program and can also be found in the ZDF media library.

“At almost 76 years old, I now definitely know what it feels like to be an old man and how little this feeling corresponds to what I imagined it to be in earlier years,” explained Redl. “Krüger also has the certainty that he has a large part of his years behind him – but unlike me, he is able to accept it without comment.”

In addition, the character Krüger has an ability that he doesn’t have as an actor: “He looks at people and foresees what will happen to them. That’s great and scary at the same time. We grew old together – and maybe, but only Maybe this gift will be given to me at some point.”
