Prince William at Bafta Awards: Glamorous appearance without Kate

Prince William spontaneously attended the ceremony of the most important British film award: On the sidelines of the Bafta Awards in London, he also briefly mentioned his sick wife Kate.

It is usually one of the biggest glamor appearances of the year for Prince William and Duchess Kate: When the film industry is honored with the Bafta Awards in London, the royals are also there on the red carpet. But this year the organizers had to worry for a long time whether anyone from Buckingham Palace would be present. It was only at the last second that Prince William agreed – and appeared alone at the awards ceremony for the first time in years.

According to British media, he apologized to Bafta representatives for the spontaneous decision. The heir to the British throne has been living in a state of emergency for weeks: first his wife Duchess Kate had to undergo serious abdominal surgery, then his father King Charles was diagnosed with cancer. When asked if he had seen many of the nominated films, he briefly touched on the topic.

Duchess Kate is out until Easter

“I’ve never seen as few as this time, with my wife it was all a bit… – hopefully we can make up for it,” William fussed. It is not known what exactly Kate is suffering from. However, the 42-year-old will be out until Easter, and William deleted numerous appointments from his calendar in order to be able to be there more for his wife and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

He emphasized that Kate was sorry that she couldn’t be there, she loved the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards. William himself has been President of the Baftas since 2010. He then took a seat next to Hollywood star Cate Blanchett in the hall and also chatted briefly with David Beckham.

In addition to his normal workload, William now also takes on appointments for his sick father. At the beginning of the month, he thanked him at a charity event for the many good wishes that his family had received after the illnesses became known. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Catherine and my father for their support and kind messages, especially in the last few days. That means a lot to all of us,” said the 41-year-old.
