The Oscar winner Asif Kapadia directs a documentary for Amazon Prime Video about the last days of the tennis legend Roger Federer. The base material was originally intended as a home movie of the former tennis player.
The feature-length documentary will chronicle the last 12 days of the career of the man many consider the greatest tennis player of all time.
In a statement, Amazon said the untitled documentary was “originally a home video that was never intended for public viewing,” which “captures Federer at his most vulnerable and sincereas he says goodbye to a game and the fans who shaped his life over the past two decades.”
Federer said: “Initially the idea was to capture the final moments of my professional tennis career so I could have them later to show my family and friends.”
He added: “During my career, I tended to avoid having cameras around me and my family, especially during important moments. But I didn’t see the harm in filming this since it was never intended for the public. However, we captured many powerful moments and it became a deeply personal journey. I am happy to partner with Prime Video due to its extensive global reach and significant presence in the film industry. “This ensures that the story of my final days in tennis will resonate with both tennis enthusiasts and a wider audience around the world.”
The Swiss star won 20 Grand Slams, including eight Wimbledons, and is third on the all-time list behind Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal.
