In a recent interview, Keaton talked about reprising Beetlejuice and deciding early on with Burton that he wanted to eavoid relying too much on CGI.

“The one thing that he and I decided from the beginning, from the beginning, if we ever did it again, is that I was not at all interested in doing something where there was too much technology,” he told People. “It had to feel handmade”.
He continued: “What made it fun was seeing someone in the corner holding something for you, looking at everyone in the tight headroom and saying, ‘Those are people down there, operating these things, trying to get it right.’ “
Keaton noted, “When you can do that again after years of standing in front of a giant screen, pretending there’s someone in front of you, it’s just a lot of fun.”
Beetlejuice’s return to the big screen
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released on September 6 and Winona Ryder will reprise her role as Lydia Deetz, as well as the return of Catherine O’Hara like Delia Deetz. The cast includes Jenna Ortega like Astrid Deetz, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti and Burn Gorman.
Over the years, Keaton revealed that he and Burton had talked about making a sequel to the film, saying, “We thought, ‘You’ve got to do it right.’ Otherwise, just don’t do it. Let’s get on with our lives and do other things.’ So I was hesitant and cautious, and he was probably equally hesitant and cautious all these years. Once we got there, I said, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’ Let’s see if we can do it, if we can do it.’”
