She used to be teased not only because of her red hair. Leonie Benesch felt like an outsider for a long time. “It hurt,” the actress remembers. But she didn’t let herself be defeated.
Actress Leonie Benesch (32; “The Teacher’s Room”, “Babylon Berlin”) felt like an outsider during her time at school. “I was always the new one and the eco-child even at the Waldorf school,” she told “Zeit”. She moved frequently because of her father’s job.
“My younger brothers and I wore secondhand clothes before it was cool,” Benesch said. She was also teased because of her red hair. “It hurt. I remember thinking: You’re going to regret it at some point.” Someday she will be famous.
The social drama “The Teacher’s Room” by director Ilker Catak with Benesch in the lead role has a chance of winning an Oscar in the “Best International Film” category. The film tells of a conflict at a school that gets out of hand.
