This collaboration promises great things: Director and Oscar winner Alejandro González Iñárritu wants to bring Tom Cruise in front of the camera as the leading actor for his next film.
Hollywood star Tom Cruise (61) and Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu (60) could embark on a joint film project. Oscar winner Iñárritu would like to bring the actor in front of the camera as the leading actor in his next English-language feature film, as several US industry publications unanimously reported. According to Deadline.com, Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are negotiating a joint production. Nothing was initially known about the content of the film. Iñárritu is also responsible for the script along with other writers, reported “Variety” and “Hollywood Reporter”.
For the Mexican, it would be the first English-language film since his success with “The Revenant”. The monumental revenge drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio earned him his second directing Oscar in 2016. The year before, he won the Academy Award for best director with “Birdman.” Most recently he shot the Netflix film “Bardo, the fictional chronicle of a handful of truths” (2022) in Mexico.
Cruise appeared on screen as secret agent Ethan Hunt in last year’s blockbuster “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”. In 2022 he won at the box office with “Top Gun: Maverick” in the role of pilot Pete Mitchell aka Maverick. In 2020, the star and the US space agency NASA announced plans to film on board the International Space Station (ISS). Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity”) is set to direct the space film. A date for this is not yet known.
