Weight loss injection: Why Ozempic is the top topic in Milan

Not only are the models skinny again, the guests at the fashion shows are also becoming thinner and thinner. The reason? The Ozempic weight loss injection. This is being discussed in all front rows. star-Fashion director Marcus Luft on the gossip from the catwalk

Actually, it always happens the same way: no fashion show starts on time. Half an hour waiting time? Belongs to the game. So you sit on the catwalk, crammed onto narrow benches, and listen to your colleagues having small talk.

“Have you been to the new Gucci store yet?”

“Prada was, as always, very unique!”

“And have you heard that Alessandro Michele is now supposed to start at Fendi? About time!”

But all this gossip is actually incredibly irrelevant. Because everyone is actually just talking about the must-have of the moment: the Ozempic weight loss injection. Already on the first day of Milan Fashion Week it is noticeable: many colleagues, who you usually only meet once a season, look noticeably thin. Everyone meets for a pasta dinner in one of the classic trattorias. Why not? Because they openly talk about taking “the injection”. A stab in the stomach for Size Zero. Dreamy!

There is open discussion about the weight loss injection

And none of this is even being kept secret. Beauty procedures have so far been a taboo topic. Hardly anyone talked about “having something done” to look wrinkle-free. It was better to ramble something about “drinking lots of water and sleeping early”. But now Ozempic is being discussed openly. Like an Asian influencer who screams that he has already lost eight kilos. For this he receives applause from his colleagues. “It’s like in heaven!” Others report finding a “top doctor” who wrote them a prescription. After all, it is much healthier to be thin and not have to hide too many kilos. Reaction: Nod from the entire front row.

It was only with one stylist that the weight loss thing didn’t work out. He gained four kilos because of the injection. “No! Oh my God,” the line shouts. Even more dramatic: with the foresight of finally being able to be thin, he pre-ordered the new Prada collection in a smaller size. “I don’t fit in there!” he whines. “In any case, the season is over for me!”

Size Zero returns

So it already exists, the Ozempic generation. And she only likes to talk about one topic: eating normally – and still getting slim. It almost seems like a liberation. The fashion world, at least at international fashion weeks, was never really able to get used to “plus size models” and body positivity. “It just doesn’t look so good on fat people,” says a colleague from Munich, for example, who is now also thinking about how she can get the syringe. The big fashion houses have understood in recent seasons that diversity makes sense. They not only booked white models, but also had girls from Asia and Africa present the collections. But plus size women? At most one was hired. As an alibi. Most of the time she walked like a foreign body on the catwalk, where otherwise small sizes were celebrated as the ideal. Most top influencers like Leonie Hanne or Caro Daur are already incredibly thin and wear flags as dresses in the smallest sizes.

These days, when fashion for the coming fall is being presented, it’s almost in vain to find plus-size models in Milan. Brands like Prada and Just Cavalli have ultra-thin models present their collections. Excitement? None. Instead, it’s better to talk about being thin. “Isn’t it much unhealthier to have a few kilos too much?” is what you hear or arguments like “high blood pressure!” and “impaired quality of life.” Of course, the old saying from model Kate Moss is being brought out again, which says that nothing tastes as good as it feels to be thin.

After losing weight, tightening follows

But the same applies to Ozempinistas: Nothing in life comes for free. Because of course the weight loss craze also has a downside. For example, it is said that a businesswoman from Munich lost 28 kilos but now had to have her body toned. There is already talk of the “Ozempic Face”. This refers to the sagging facial skin that occurs when you lose weight on your face too quickly. It is logical that addresses of medical professionals are also exchanged in order to get this problem under control.

So the waiting time until the show starts will fly by. Everyone is now sitting, the lights in the hall go out. Very thin models present the latest looks for fall. The audience nods knowingly at each other. They will soon be able to carry anything. Thank Ozempic. But tonight as a reward, a little tiramisu.
