Accusation of involuntary manslaughter: trial set for Alec Baldwin

It is now clear when Alec Baldwin will have to stand trial on charges of negligent homicide on the “Rust” set.

The weapons master from the film set of the western “Rust”, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is currently in court. It is now clear when actor Alec Baldwin (65) will have to answer to a judge on charges of negligent homicide of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021). , the main actor, in whose hand was the weapon from which the fatal shot was fired, will be tried from July 9th of this year.

As with Gutierrez-Reed, this will also take place in a court in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Jury selection will begin on July 9th before the first witness statements are taken a day later. The time period for the trial was set to be a little over a week, so a verdict could be reached on July 19th.

Actor wanted earlier appointment

The defendant’s first request was therefore not followed. Baldwin’s lawyers had previously tried to get the trial to start around a month earlier. “Mr. Baldwin asserts his right to a speedy trial,” the lawyers said in a letter at the end of January. The actor is “entitled to a fair and speedy decision on the charges in order to minimize public vilification and suspicion.”

The fact that it doesn’t start until July is apparently due to the responsible public prosecutor, Kari Morrissey. According to Variety, she announced that she was unable to attend in June due to another trial. Consequently, she asked for an appointment in July or August.

The tragic incident occurred on October 21, 2021 on the set of the western film “Rust”. A prop gun that Alec Baldwin was holding at a rehearsal was apparently loaded with live ammunition and went off. How this could have happened is still unclear. The star has repeatedly emphasized that he did not pull the trigger. The first criminal charges against him were dropped in April 2022. At that time, however, a statement from the investigating authority said that they reserved the right to charge him again if new facts emerged. In mid-August, another report came to the conclusion that the actor did pull the trigger.
