René Pollesch is dead. According to a statement, the director of the Berliner Volksbühne died at the age of 61.
The director of the Berliner Volksbühne, René Pollesch, is dead. As the theater at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz announced in a statement, the playwright, author and director died unexpectedly at the age of 61. It says: “It is with horror and deep sadness that we announce that the author and director René Pollesch died suddenly and unexpectedly this morning, February 26, 2024, at the age of 61.”
No information has yet been given about the circumstances of death. Pollesch only took over the position of director at the Berlin Volksbühne in 2021 and had previously worked there for many years. His joint piece “nothing is okay” with “Tatort” star Fabian Hinrichs (50) premiered recently.
Pollesch was born on October 29, 1962 in Dorheim/Friedberg in Hesse. He studied applied theater studies at the University of Giessen. In his long career, during which he worked at various theaters, he wrote over 200 plays.
