According to Källenius, there will be cars with internal combustion engines as long as the markets or the charging infrastructure have not yet reached the point of switching completely to electric vehicles. The decisive factor is how to get the technology on the road with a reasonable price-performance ratio. The work for this must be done in this decade, said the Swedish manager. “That means: by 2030 we will be ready to cover all market segments from the A-Class to the S-Class with electric vehicles. But we need rapid progress with the charging infrastructure. ”
So far, Daimler has planned that the entire new vehicle fleet from Mercedes-Benz should be CO2-neutral by 2039 at the latest. This should apply to production as early as 2022.
