Britain’s Prince Harry has failed in a London court in his lawsuit for police protection during his visits to the United Kingdom. The authorities’ decision to give the younger son of King Charles III. The London High Court decided on Wednesday that there was no objection to no longer providing systematic police protection. The British Home Office reacted “pleased” to the court decision.
Prince Harry announced his appeal. Ultimately, the Duke of Sussex is not demanding “preferential treatment”, but only a “fair and legal” application of the personal protection rules, his spokesman explained.
Judge Peter Lane presented a 52-page statement of reasons for his decision. The British government’s decision not to grant Prince Harry the same security measures as active members of the royal family is “legally flawless,” it says.

Harry and his wife, the former US actress Meghan Markle, withdrew from their royal duties in 2020. They live with their children Archie and Lilibet in Meghan’s homeland of California. The British authorities subsequently decided to only decide on police protection for Prince Harry and his family on a case-by-case basis and no longer grant it in principle.
Harry’s lawyers explained that this decision meant that for security reasons he would not be able to return to his homeland, which Britain still is to him and will remain “forever.” Prince Harry’s bodyguards do not have sufficient powers to adequately protect him in the United Kingdom. In addition, they would have no access to British intelligence information. The government panel that decides on Harry’s safety acted unreasonably and failed to adhere to its own principles because it did not request a risk analysis, the 39-year-old’s lawyers argued.
Prince Harry wanted to pay police privately
Government lawyer James Eadie, however, said that the younger son of King Charles III. was protected by security officers on some visits, such as in June 2021, when photographers followed him at an appointment with sick children. The government made all its decisions with the tragic death of Harry’s mother Princess Diana in 1997 in mind during a chase with paparazzi in mind.
Last year, in another lawsuit, Harry tried in vain to assert that he could privately pay the London police for his protection. The government argued at the time that police officers were not there to work “as private bodyguards for the wealthy.”
Prince Harry rarely visits his home country anymore. The relationship with the royal family, especially with his older brother, Crown Prince William, is shattered. Immediately after it became known that his father Charles III had cancer. At the beginning of February, Prince Harry visited the king in London.
