Matthias Opdenhövel: That’s how he feels as a Sat.1 all-purpose weapon

Matthias Opdenhövel talks about the new quiz show “The Floor” and reveals why he wants the comeback of “Hast Du Töpfen?” had.

Matthias Opdenhövel (53) will be presenting his new strategy quiz show “The Floor” from Thursday, February 29th (8:15 p.m. on Sat.1 and on Joyn). In this format, 100 candidates can prove themselves on the “floor” and win 100,000 euros at the end. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Opdenhövel reveals what sets the show apart from other quiz shows and whether he himself could insist on the “floor”. The presenter also talks about his other TV shows “The Tribute” as well as the “Hast Du Tones?” comeback and reveals what his future looks like on “The Masked Singer”.

What distinguishes “The Floor” from other quiz shows and from the previous formats that you have moderated?

Matthias Opdenhövel: The speed and the fact that a lot of visual quizzing has to be done. Most quiz shows only follow the pattern F: question and several answer options. On “The Floor” we constantly switch question mode.

What do the candidates have to bring with them to win?

Opdenhövel: Good general knowledge, quick comprehension and very strong nerves.

Would you insist on the “floor”? What would be your weak points?

Opdenhövel: I would be confident in sports, geography and history. I would rather stay away from exotic fish or plants (laughs).

You will also host the new show “The Tribute”. We are looking for Germany’s best cover band. How will the show run and how are the preparations going?

Opdenhövel: That’s still a long way off, I don’t want to give anything away yet. Just this much: Everyone can look forward to a great music show with a great jury.

How do you prepare for moderation? How big of a challenge is it when it’s a completely new show?

Opdenhövel: Actually it’s always the same: I have to like the format straight away. If I have to think too long about whether it’s right for me, it’s a bad sign. And since “The Floor” and “The Tribute” immediately went “Bääm”, I’m really looking forward to it.

However, you celebrate a comeback with “Do you have any sounds?” Why did you want to host the show again?

Opdenhövel: In “Do you have any sounds?” did it “Bääm” 25 years ago. This show was my first evening show. It has a very big place in my heart and that’s why I immediately said yes when I asked for a comeback.

What memories do you have of the old episodes?

Opdenhövel: Only the most beautiful. That’s why I wanted to bring the band back from back then. And everyone from “Tönlein Brilliant” didn’t hesitate for a second.

Will there be any innovations to the concept?

Opdenhövel: We have a few new ideas, but of course the simple basic concept remains: You have to guess songs!

The three shows make you a Sat.1 all-purpose weapon. How do you feel about that?

Opdenhövel: I’m lucky enough to be able to host so many great, different shows like “The Floor”, “The Masked Singer”, “Hast Du Tones” or “The Tribute” and also the Bundesliga. That feels very good.

Many shows have made a comeback in recent years. Which show do you want back and which would you like to host?

Opdenhövel: If anyone would like to put on the “Game without Borders” again, please feel free to contact me.

And then there’s “The Masked Singer.” Will you stay true to the format?

Opdenhövel: Of course. Who else is supposed to take care of the new masks?
