While the new Corona variant Omikron is spreading unchecked, Queen Elizabeth II is planning a Christmas dinner as if nothing had happened – with 50 guests.
Great Britain is gearing up for the Corona winter: The rapid spread of the Omikron variant is causing the number of infected people in the United Kingdom to rise rapidly, and Parliament adopted new measures to combat the pandemic.
Regardless, Queen Elizabeth II plans her traditional Christmas dinner with her family as if nothing had happened. The 95-year-old has invited fifty family members to Windsor Castle next Tuesday.
Guests include her son and heir to the throne, Prince Charles, with his wife Camilla. The Queen will also be able to see three of her four new great-grandchildren next week: Princess Eugenie’s son August Brooksbank, who is just under one year old, is expected as well as Lucas Tindall, the 9-month-old child of Zara Tindall, and Princess Beatrice’s three-month-old daughter Sienna Mapelli Mozzi.
It’s been a bad year for the Queen
Unfortunately, the Queen has to do without her fourth great-grandchild, born this year: As expected, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan with their two children Archie and the six-month-old Lilibet Diana will not make the long journey to England, they will stay in their new home Californian Montecito.
The Queen’s Christmas dinner is traditionally held at Buckingham Palace in London. Due to the corona pandemic, it was canceled last year. This time it takes place differently at Windsor Castle. The voices are increasing to cancel the feast again. But as the British daily newspaper “Daily Mail” reports, the 95-year-old Elizabeth II is willing to go through with the event as planned.
It would be the conciliatory end of a terrible year for her in which she lost her beloved husband, Prince Philip. And in which her son Prince Andrew came into the focus of abuse allegations. He could face a public trial in the coming year. Perhaps the Queen would like to feel some harmony and an ideal world at least at Christmas.
