Sparks of humor in a black comedy with Juana Viale

“Human Resources” pretends to take place in Mexico but is filmed in Córdoba. The co-production with that country is a story of revenge and betrayal that is not without grace

“Love came from Mexico,” said an old comedy with Amanda Ledesma, Zully Moreno, the charro Tito Guizar and Ernesto Lecuona, the author of “Siboney”, among other admirable songs. Now, or rather, in 2022, director Jesús Magaña, director of photography Emilio Cantú (“The Devil Between the Legs”), Pedro de Távira and other actors of the moment in those parts, and the Argentine Cecilia Ponce, arrived from Mexico. residing in Mexico City and starring in “María Navajas 3” and other titles from that prolific industry.

They arrived, and filmed “Human Resources”, a story of black humor, which premiered among us yesterday, based on the homonymous novel by Antonio Ortuño, about the resentful section head of a publishing house who sees how others, less capable but better off, take over the positions. to which he aspires. Conspiracies, office flirtations that lead straight to bed, sniffs, pimps, careerists, fake people, easy women, annoying and irritable husbands, a bomb between the desks, a massacre with several dead, let’s say that one It is a risky job, but in an elegant office and with beautiful, well-dressed (and poorly thought-out) people..

The unique thing is that everything that supposedly takes place in Mexico was filmed in Córdoba, Argentina, with extensive participation of local talents.among them Santiago Oliva, art director, Mariana Asís, costume designer, Hernán Conen, sound, Ignacio Pol and Pablo Accame, visual effects, and also Ulises Bueno, who appears singing “Gabriela”, and two other talents, not from Córdoba but well Argentines, and in important roles: Juana Viale, as the happily adulterous and evil woman who drives the action, and the maestro Emilio Kauderer, author of a very varied music, as playful as it is disturbing.

Co-production, Antonio Pita and other people from Prisma Cine, who just before participated in a Brazilian series titled “Public Relations”, partially made in the Mediterranean city. And behind all this, a provincial organization that is doing its job well and makes things easier, the Córdoba Audiovisual Pole. It is not the antithesis of Incaa, but it is an example to follow (it is a pity that in this case the plot of the film leaves some points unresolved, but, in short, nothing is perfect).

A memory on the side: in 1986 Ron Howard, leading a huge team, and Michael Keaton, leading the cast, filmed “Gung-Ho”, which here was called “Crazy Factory”, a comedy about the sale of a plant American automotive company to a Japanese corporation. All in English, and all filmed at the Fiat plant in El Palomar, province of Buenos Aires, as if it were Pennsylvania. They did not arrive with love, nor did they give greater participation to the Argentine technicians and actors (and it was not a good comedy either).
