Microtheater: “American Blind” premieres tomorrow

“When I found out that the premiere was on March 5, something suddenly resonated with me about the date and that’s when I remembered that it is the anniversary of Alberto Olmedo’s departure. “I found it very significant and at the same time beautiful, especially because I have been returning to doing humor since then,” says Silvia Pérez, that together with Gabriela Groppa they premiere tomorrow “American blinds” in Microtheater.

The work written by Carolina Liponetzky tells the story of two neighbors, Perla and Caron, who spy on their neighbor across the street while they discuss their miserable lives and try to carry out a plan that is as ridiculous as it is dangerous. With Almodovarian and eighties aesthetics, these women on the verge of a nervous breakdown will reach the limit, becoming potential murderers. It is directed by Carla Scatarelli and can be seen on Tuesdays and Sundays at 10:45 p.m., 11:15 p.m., 11:45 p.m. and 0:15 a.m. We talked with the actresses.

Journalist: What attracted you to your characters?

Silvia Pérez: I am amused by the delirium of those thoughts that border on madness and give free rein to that delirium. It is difficult for it not to happen to us in life because we are civilized beings, but we all come to think about those twisted things. Sometimes we hide it or perhaps reveal it when we are in confidence with friends, we say it as a joke and taking it to the theater seems very funny to me.

Gabriela Groppa: Caron is an endearing character. He greatly admires Pearl and follows her as a guide, he wants to be like her, and he is innocent but at the same time with the evil of a boy. She goes along with all of Perla’s ideas, she gets along with them and she is also very fearful. These characters are crazy, I love this story and humor. What you do most is have a good time at Microteatro.

Q.: Silvia, what is this return to humor like on the anniversary of Olmledo’s death? Why didn’t you do humor again?

SP: Perhaps since then when I returned to work after a long time I needed to show that I could do drama and that is perhaps why I got into alternative theater. It was like a challenge and today after having done many works there is nothing more beautiful than doing humor. Making people laugh is much more difficult than making drama, and that was inside me since Olmedo taught me everything I am professionally. Although I studied with many teachers like Carlos Gandolfo, who helped me come back, the fact of being present and making humor with truth is something beautiful.

Q.: What is the difference between doing theater and Microtheater?

SP: Although it lasts 15 minutes, the treatment is very similar. I’m rehearsing something that has a beginning, middle and end. Although it is shorter that way, I am rehearsing theater. The challenge is that I am going to have people very close in a very small place and that will be an enriching experience that is a bit like theater classes. Also what happens to the actor with the audience’s gaze that perhaps in a large theater one does not have.

GG: Doing Microtheater is like doing a month of theater but in one night because there are four performances. It is wonderful, dynamic, fun, as actors it makes us dizzy, this performance after another because it gives us the chance to accommodate, try new things, adjust, it means having another chance each time, it is very immediate, without having to wait for the day. following. It is a very fun space, all actors should try it because the training is super strong, of attention, of play, of opportunities to create. Since there are different works, there is a lot of work.

Q: What is the Microteatro audience like?

SP: People come from all over, not only from the theater world but people who have never been to the theater. The dynamic of having a bar that welcomes you and people can bring their drinks to the room opens up an audience that is different and wants to have fun. Many tourists also come where they also meet people.
