As a woman in the film industry you have to constantly fight. Says Léa Seydoux, who sees the Hollywood business in particular as very rigid and profit-oriented.
Actress Léa Seydoux (“Dune: Part Two”) has criticized the US film industry’s treatment of women. Hollywood is tough on women, but in Europe it is much easier for them, the 38-year-old Frenchwoman told Harper’s Bazaar UK magazine. “In America you have to adapt. I don’t want to adapt to the system – I want the system to adapt to me,” she said. “I’m not trying to be popular. I’m just trying to have fun.”
In the USA it’s all about money and that leads to losing your own freedom. “It’s hard for women to get older. I don’t want to be afraid of not being desirable or losing my contract,” said Seydoux. “I don’t feel comfortable having to meet everyone’s expectations.” In Europe she has more freedom. For example, she has never made a film because of the pay. Rather, films should stimulate them intellectually.
