Mental health in Argentines since the pandemic
A national scientific study exposed for the first time the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of Argentinians. It revealed that 47.2% of the people consulted had some anxiety disorder, followed by depression (36.8%) and psychiatric conditions (14.0%).
The study was led by the doctor in Social Sciences, Gabriela Irrazabal (UNLP-UBA), from the CEIL-Piette study center of CONICET over more than 4,537 cases surveyed throughout the country.
The report stated that three out of ten people who had anxiety and depression did not turn to anyone. And almost two out of every ten (16.5%) who reported a psychiatric problem assumed the same attitude.
The pandemic made it clear that mental health is part of everyone’s life. Although the numbers reflected that many people did not ask for psychological or psychiatric help, there was a large increase in the purchase of self-help books, and in the search for ways to learn to meditate from home.
