Singer Taylor Swift has not yet clearly positioned herself in the US election campaign. But she is using “Super Tuesday” – an important stage in the US primary election campaign – as an opportunity to send out a message.
Pop icon Taylor Swift has launched an election call for “Super Tuesday” in the USA. “I wanted to remind you to vote for the people who represent you most,” the 34-year-old wrote in an Instagram story on Tuesday. “If you haven’t planned to vote yet, do it today.”
Tennessee, a home of Taylor Swift, is also voting
This Tuesday, Republicans and Democrats are holding party primaries in more than a dozen US states – including in Tennessee, where Swift has long been a resident. The votes are about who should run as a candidate in the presidential election at the beginning of November. Incumbent Joe Biden would like to run again for the Democrats and has no serious competition within the party. Among Republicans, former President Donald Trump is the clear favorite.
“Whether you live in Tennessee or elsewhere in the United States, stay informed about your polling locations and times,” Swift wrote, adding a link to a nonpartisan website that provides information about US elections. The singer has enormous influence among her fans and has around 280 million followers on Instagram. Conspiracy theories about Swift recently gained momentum in right-wing circles because she threw her support behind Biden before the 2020 presidential election and has since repeatedly urged her fans to vote.
