This was confirmed by the head of global streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery. Netflix has already implemented such a restriction in Argentina.
Just like Netflix did, Max (recently converted from HBO Max) will be the next streaming platform to prevent users from sharing passwords of your accounts. Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is preparing to implement a series of restrictions on sharing accounts on devices in other households.
The content you want to access is exclusive to subscribers.
This Monday, JB Perette, head of global streaming for WBD confirmed that the restrictions could begin at the end of 2024. “The closure of password sharing that, obviously, Netflix implemented very successfully, will begin operating between the end of this year and the beginning of 2025″, Perette said, adding, “It’s another growth opportunity for the company.”

In this way, the company aims to prevent users from sharing accounts and, where possible, force more people to pay a subscription. At the moment it is unknown when this restriction could work in Argentina.
The real reason why HBO Max became Max
HBO Max

Max has already existed in the United States since 2023.
HBO Max changed its name to just “Max” as part of the Warner strategy to distance itself from the perception that HBO focuses exclusively in premium content.
The strategy director of Parrot Analytics, Julia Alexanderpoints out that by eliminating “HBO” from the name, they are reinforcing the idea of being a versatile destination for all types of television programs, not just high-quality productions. “We are the home of anything you want to see”Alexander emphasized to the New York Time.
This change seeks to attract a broader audience and compete with more popular platforms, since HBO Max currently has a viewing share of 1.3% in the United States, considerably lower than competitors such as YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. The strategy focuses on offering a diverse range of content to increase viewing minutes and improve its position in the transmission market.
