Moderator Eva Imhof has had a difficult time: after a breakdown, she was treated in a psychiatric hospital for a year.
Moderator Eva Imhof (45) has had difficult times. As she revealed in a recent interview with the magazine “Bunte”, she spent a year in a psychiatric hospital after a breakdown. “I almost died,” says the mother of 11-year-old twin daughters. “I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. I don’t know exactly where it comes from. But in the last few years a lot has come together.”
This led to Eva Imhof’s collapse
In 2023 she collapsed in the Berlin Hotel Adlon and was taken by ambulance to the Berlin Charité. “I was unconscious for a few days and was in a coma three times. Once for ten days. My body simply couldn’t take it anymore. I spent a year in the acute psychiatric ward.”
In 2015 and 2016, first her father and then her best friend Miriam Pielhau (1975 2016) died. “After that I really needed to take some time off, but instead I threw myself completely into work,” says Imhof. In 2019 she had her first burnout and was on sick leave for four weeks. After that she worked normally again.
But she wasn’t feeling well the whole time. “I thought that this was just my normal life now. I was feeling incredibly bad, not just mentally, but also physically. I was completely burnt out, but I carried on anyway. That was the beginning of the total breakdown.”
Separation from husband Peter Imhof
The separation from her long-time husband Peter Imhof (50) didn’t make it any better; she announced this in 2022: “It was an incredible amount and of course I fell into a hole after the separation.” However, she has struggled with depression, panic attacks and anxiety disorders since she was a child. During her stay in the psychiatric hospital, however, her ex-husband was there for her and visited her often: “It’s a great gift how well Peter and I get along, but it was a hard road. (…) At first My illness has brought us together again.”
Her new friend gives her support
Her new boyfriend also gave her a lot of support. He “often sat at the sickbed” and “regulated a lot.” According to Imhof, the new man at her side is a lecturer at the university. She met him through a friend over two years ago. “He is always by my side. I am very grateful to him,” says the presenter.
