Before she started as a student at Harvard University, she did an internship that got a lot of attention. As the Hollywood Reporter reported at the time, Obama began working as an intern in Harvey Weinstein’s New York office in February 2017. In October 2017, the New York Times, among others, reported for the first time about Weinstein’s misconduct, sexual harassment and abuse. At that time, her father, former President Barack Obama, also commented on the allegations against the now convicted Hollywood producer and expressed his solidarity with his victims.
The 25-year-old Obama himself did not dissuade Weinstein from her goal of gaining a foothold in Hollywood. The dream factory is still the place where she wants to fulfill her career. She is now already working as a screenwriter for various projects. At the Sundance Festival, she recently presented the short film she wrote, “The Heart” – and subtly revealed in a short video that she has apparently given up her famous last name in Hollywood. The 25-year-old is only introduced there as Malia Ann.
Donald Glover is a fan of hers
The young author and filmmaker did not explain the reasons for the name change, but it could be that she wants to gain a foothold without the influence of her famous parents. One of her biggest fans in Hollywood is actor, author and musician Donald Glover. Her writing style is “great,” Glover, who has already worked with Obama, told Vanity Fair. “I feel like she’s someone who’s going to do really good things soon,” he said.
