“Avatar the last Airbender”the live-action series inspired by the anime, will be able to tell the story of the four nations: Water, Earth, Fire and Air after Netflix will renew it for two more seasons.
The streaming platform gave the show a two-season renewal order to conclude the story of Aang’s journey to becoming the Avatar.
It comes after the show premiered on Netflix on February 22 and will register 41.1 million visits in its first 11 daystopping its TV chart for the past two weeks and being on track to break into its top ten most-watched list for its first three months.
Netflix’s plan: prevent the growth of the protagonists of Avatar from being noticed
The plan is to film these two seasons (the second and third) in close succession to mitigate the fact that child actors tend to grow up quickly.
The series comes from Rideback, whose boss Danlinexecutive producer of the series, was recently named Netflix’s new head of film, replacing Scott Stubber. Albert Kim is the showrunner and replaced original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko in 2020.
Its three seasons will reflect the structure of the animated serieswhich featured three books in three seasons about Aang’s story that premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and became a hit on Netflix during the early stages of the pandemic.
It is unclear how many episodes will be produced for the second and third seasons. The first season has eight episodes.
What “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is about
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” takes place in a world divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and the Air Nomads. The “Benders” are people who have the ability to telekinetically manipulate and control the element corresponding to their nation, using gestures based on Chinese martial arts. The “Avatar” is the only individual with the ability to bend all four elements.
The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of the four elements, maintaining peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and destroyed the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders to conquer the world. Since the current incarnation of the Avatar has not yet emerged, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad, and the last of his kind, awakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar.
Together with his new friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), brothers and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a quest to save the world and fight off the attack of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But with a crown prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) determined to capture them, it will not be an easy task. They will need the help of many allies and colorful characters that they will meet along the way. Kim and Lin are executive producers alongside Jabbar Raisani, Lindsey Liberatore and Michael Goi. Goi and Raisani directed episodes of the first season alongside Roseanne Liang and Jet Wilkinson.
