Barbie is celebrating her 65th birthday – and turning famous, strong women from all over the world into dolls for International Women’s Day.

To mark Barbie’s 65th birthday and International Women’s Day, both this week, Mattel is honoring famous female role models from around the world with its own dolls. The US toy manufacturer has transformed, among others, the British actress Helen Mirren (78), the Australian singer Kylie Minogue (55) and the Canadian singer Shania Twain (58) into Barbie dolls.

A German woman also becomes a Barbie

The German-Iranian comedienne and activist Enissa Amani (42) also received her own doll. Can you believe it, an Enissa Barbie,” says the 42-year-old happily. “She was modeled after me and is also wearing the exact outfit that I wore last year at a speech about human rights.” She has “no words more,” Amani continued. “I only had a Barbie as a little girl, today I can be one.”

There are also now US actress Viola Davis (58), the indigenous Brazilian content creator Maira Gomez, the Mexican director Lila Avilés (42) and the Japanese model Nicole Fujita (26) as Barbie dolls.

According to a press release, Mattel’s aim with the campaign is to “present impactful stories and storytellers who can inspire fans of all ages to write their own life stories and unleash their limitless potential.”
