The Queen has now canceled the pre-Christmas meal with the family because of the corona pandemic. 50 people should come together.
Queen Elizabeth II reportedly canceled her traditional Christmas dinner with the royal family. According to British media reports, this happened “with regret” and as a “precautionary measure”.
The reason is apparently the omicron variant of the corona virus, which is spreading rapidly in Great Britain. According to the palace, the fact that the royal Christmas party is canceled is “the right thing for everyone involved”.
Queen cancels Christmas dinner
The monarch had planned to invite around 50 relatives to dinner in the coming week, before the holidays, including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is the second year in a row that the Queen cancels the celebration, which normally takes place at Buckingham Palace. The event was supposed to be held this year at Windsor Castle, which is where the 95-year-old has mainly been since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Fest in Sandringham
One day after the Christmas party, the Queen wanted to take a helicopter to Sandringham in Norfolk, where she will spend Christmas as usual. The closest family will join her on Christmas Eve and traditionally attend mass together on December 25th at St. Mary Magdalene Church. It will be the Queen’s first Christmas in 73 years without her husband, Prince Philip, who died in April at the age of 99.
