Hape Kerkeling speaks out in favor of the AfD ban and finds clear words

In an interview, Hape Kerkeling spoke out in favor of banning the AfD. Germany must learn from its past, said the comedian.

In a new interview with “t-online”, Hape Kerkeling doesn’t beat around the bush for long. On the contrary: when he was asked about the political situation in Germany, he became very clear. If he were his dubbing character “Kung Fu Panda”, he would have already found his favorite opponent: “Well, let’s say: Mr. Gauland,” said Kerkeling in the interview.

It is only important for Kerkeling to talk to AfD supporters in certain situations. “All the people who allow themselves to be caught up in this and for some unknown reason follow this blind hatred and become hateful themselves, feel resentment, so that they believe they have to make this choice, you should definitely try to catch them and teach them otherwise,” says he. But: “Those who stand for this policy and represent it to the outside world, I don’t believe that a change of heart is possible for them, only in exceptional cases and in this respect they fail because of rhetorical means.” With people like that, discussions have no point, says the comedian. “If your opponent believes that black is red, then you lose,” he explains.

Later in the interview, Kerkeling becomes even clearer. He sees democracy in greater danger than ever before. “It’s inexplicable to me how you can choose your own catastrophe. I understand that people are dissatisfied with politics, and I am too. But that’s not why I want to abolish democracy,” he says. Then he becomes more specific: “History has shown what the effective means are. In any case, I can’t remember that fascism was ever ended through discussion,” said Kerkeling.

The only option

He explains what he means by that directly. For the comedian, a ban on the AfD is the only way to avert a catastrophe. “All I hear is that it would be too risky to ban this party. I think this argument is downright grotesque. We have a basic law and that is clear. The legislature wanted to prevent the Federal Republic of Germany from ever becoming a dictatorship again. We are now faced with the problem, with the real possibility that Germany will become a dictatorship and within a very short period of time,” said Kerkeling.

Kerkeling’s words are causing a lively discussion online. The TV legend experiences both popularity and headwind, particularly on X, formerly Twitter.
