The film is a remake of Lewis Milestone’s iconic 1930 film of the same name, which in turn is based on the novel written by Erich Maria Remarque, burned by the Nazis and sung by Elton John.
With a notable special effects game and extraordinary technical resources, the film takes the viewer through the battlefields with a raw and heartbreaking perspective with which it reinforces its anti-war discourse.
What is “All Quiet on the Front”, the Netflix movie, about?
The film addresses the story of Paul Bäumer, a young seventeen-year-old German student, who enlists with a group of friends and without family support to do so to fight in the First World War. The enthusiasm they show for going to the front, full of patriotism and camaraderie, ends when they face the reality of the trenches on the front lines in northern France.
Faced with initial boasts that they would be marching towards Paris in six weeks, Paul and his friends Albert, Ludwig and Katczinsky, whom they meet in the trenches, face the death of their comrades for eighteen months. A central theme of the film is the “loss of idealism and the cruel disillusionment of young people.”
