Reality show “The 50” starts: Kate Merlan had nightmares about the games

Kate Merlan faces some challenges on Amazon’s “The 50.” “I’ve never had my heart pound like this,” said the 37-year-old.

Amazon Prime’s new reality show “The 50” premieres on March 11th. In a remote castle, 50 German reality TV stars fight for the jackpot in 14 episodes – which goes to one follower. Kate Merlan (37) also wants to secure the prize money. The reality star has taken part in many formats and is a well-known face in the reality TV scene. “Every reality fan will get their money’s worth with ‘The 50’,” promises the 37-year-old in an interview with the news agency spot on news. “The games were really bad, I even had nightmares about them.”

Which reality star were you most excited to see?

Kate Merlan: In fact, I was most looking forward to the people with whom I still had unfinished business, such as Jasmin Herren. I thought that in this format you can’t avoid each other. And since we haven’t been friends for a long time, I was looking forward to seeing if she would still act cool with me and continue to be as left-handed as she has been behind my back in the past. I was also looking forward to all the colorful and queer people, even those I didn’t know personally before, like Raffa’s Plastic Life.

Which people would you have liked to have done without?

Merlan: I wasn’t really looking forward to Cora Schumacher at the time. I didn’t feel like having a clarifying conversation with her. I could easily have done without seeing her again. I haven’t had any contact with her since her dog shit all over my bathroom carpet on New Year’s Eve a few years ago and she just left it there.

Who do you think was missing from the cast?

Merlan: If I had still been with Jakub at that time, he would have been the one I would have liked to see in there. There was definitely another couple who moved in together and whom I didn’t even know before. I think with Jakub and I it would have been really exciting, because everyone knows: Wherever we both show up, that’s where the fun goes. To be honest, we weren’t even back together at that point. I admit that I put out some feelers on site and analyzed the other guys in the castle in detail.

What was the mood like during the show?

Merlan: My mood changed relatively quickly during the show because I was extremely sleep deprived. The underground metal double-decker beds robbed me of every second of sleep I desperately needed. I didn’t close my eyes for the few centimeters where I lay squished. There was also the snoring of other people. I just need my rest and my beauty sleep. If I don’t have that, there’s nothing to be done with me and then everything gets to me.

What was the biggest challenge? The challenges or living together with the other candidates?

Merlan: The biggest challenge was actually the absolute lack of sleep. And the challenges were really hardcore. I’ve never had such heart palpitations. One small mistake and you’re out immediately. It happened so quickly there. During one game I almost peed my pants because I was so scared. The games were really bad, I even had nightmares about them.

“The 50” starts on March 11th, what do you want to tell the viewers now?

Merlan: I can assure you one thing: every reality fan will get their money’s worth with “The 50”. It’s really all there – from the fuck boy to the follower to the quota slut or even my beloved LGBTQ people. It’s a colorful mix, pure entertainment.

How do you feel about the fact that the profits go to the stars’ followers?

Merlan: It’s the first time that the profit goes to the followers. And let’s be honest: where would we be without our followers? As a good influencer, you make so much money that you would never make without your loyal community. So just give something back. I think it’s great that the profit goes to a follower.

You’ve already been in a few reality formats. What other formats would you like to take part in? Is there anything concrete planned yet?

Merlan: When it comes to reality formats, I’ve already done almost everything. The good thing is, there is always a lot of new stuff. They say that the premier class is the jungle camp, and I see it the same way. I love looking at the jungle and have even imagined what it would be like if I were there myself. However, it will probably fail because I have far too many fears that would all come out there. That’s why you probably won’t see me there. My favorite show so far was “Battle of the Reality Stars.” I absolutely loved it. I hope there is an all-star season at some point.
