Is Celine Dion finally feeling better again? A video on the sidelines of an ice hockey game shows her in a good mood and joking.
Since her illness, Céline Dion (55) has rarely appeared in public. But apparently she enjoys ice hockey games: A clip has now emerged that shows her in the locker room with players from the Canadian team the Edmonton Oilers. The recordings were taken at the beginning of February, but have only now been released.
Shortly after her appearance at the 2024 Grammys, the Canadian superstar attended an ice hockey game in Las Vegas. The Edmonton Oilers played there against the Vegas Golden Knights on February 6th. Just over a month after the game, footage of the encounter with Céline Dion in the locker room.
Céline Dion spreads a good mood
In the clip, the Grammy winner, who was diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune disease Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022, appears to be in high spirits. She jokes about how exciting it is for her to meet the athletes. “Those big guys who only wear flat shoes,” Dion says with a laugh. The “My Heart Will Go On” singer looked casual in a cream sweater dress and had her hair pulled back. “I can’t imagine doing that on skates with all that gear,” she adds, imitating a hockey player. Oilers left winger Zach Hyman (31) looks on with a laugh. In the caption, the team also commented: “Céline made Hyms laugh.”
The singer appeared at an ice hockey game in Las Vegas four months ago. In her first public appearance in three and a half years, she and her sons watched the Montreal Canadiens take on the Vegas Golden Knights. At that time too, she stopped by the dressing room and is said to have even sung “a few notes”. At the beginning of February, Dion finally appeared on stage again: She presented the “Album of the Year” award to Taylor Swift (34) at the Grammy Awards.
For a long time her condition hardly seemed to improve
It should be a relief for her fans that Dion can now be seen again and again – and then as relaxed as in the clip with the ice hockey players. Because there was great concern for the musician with the exceptional voice. Because of her chronic autoimmune disease, which can lead to muscle cramps, she had to cancel all concerts. Her sister Claudette had given sad details about her health in several interviews – and offered little hope of a comeback. She was “a strong woman”, but unfortunately the family “couldn’t find any medication that worked,” said Claudette Dion last year.
