A PR scandal is currently raging in the British royal family: Princess Kate has disappeared into obscurity for weeks – to recover, they say. In the meantime, wild speculation broke out on the Internet as to whether the princess was actually doing well. So many that the palace posted a photograph of her with the children on social media last weekend – but the photo showed signs of editing and manipulation. Since then, the hostilities against the palace have really gained momentum.
Citizens’ dissatisfaction with the British royal family could also be seen at this year’s Commonwealth Day, which is celebrated annually in Westminster Abbey. Protesters against the monarchy gathered in front of the imposing church in London and held up bright yellow signs demanding that the crown be abolished.
Prince William and Queen Camilla appeared on Commonwealth Day
But they wouldn’t be the British royals if they didn’t ignore this PR scandal and the protests with a smile. On the way to the church, all members of the royal family were in a good mood. Queen Camilla and the heir to the throne Prince William both appeared without their partners King Charles, who is currently battling cancer and is undergoing medical treatment, and Princess Kate, who is recovering at home at Windsor Castle after abdominal surgery.
The Commonwealth of Nations is a political association of 54 independent states, most of which are former territories of the British Empire. Commonwealth Day is held annually in their honor on the second Monday in March. During the event, various ceremonies will be held by member countries to celebrate the Commonwealth’s values, including democracy, human rights, the rule of law and economic development. It is also an opportunity for member states to celebrate their cultural diversity and shared history.
