The latest round in the War of the Roses: Brad Pitt achieves a partial success against ex-wife Angelina Jolie in the fight for the infamous winery.
New round in the tough War of the Roses between ex-husbands Brad Pitt (60) and Angelina Jolie (48): “Fight Club” star Pitt was able to achieve partial legal success in the dispute over the French winery Chateau Miraval, which they once shared. Citing access to court documents, Jolie wanted to overturn a preliminary ruling by the Supreme Court in Los Angeles and has now failed.
In a previous decision, a judge initially found that Jolie had sold her shares to a Russian oligarch in 2021 without Pitt’s consent. What consequences arise from this should be clarified in a future negotiation. But before that, Jolie attacked the statement made: The court has now rejected Jolie’s claims. She had stated that Pitt’s lawsuit was “frivolous, malicious and part of a problematic pattern.”
Brad Pitt now finally has the green light to pursue his lawsuit for breach of an “tacit agreement” on fair conduct and good faith in legal transactions. The fight for the future of the winery is being examined in court not only in Los Angeles, but also in France and Luxembourg. So far, however, there has been no resounding success for the parties involved.
Who exactly owns the shares?
The exact proportions are now quite unclear. Just last month, media reported that some shares had been legally confiscated from the oligarch’s company, according to which Brad Pitt was now the majority owner. However, other articles speak of a mysterious trust from the island of Jersey that is now said to hold these shares in the winery. At the moment, not even the actor knows exactly who he is doing business with.
What is clear is that in 2021, Brad Pitt was shocked by the fact that Jolie had sold her shares. Since then, Pitt has been attacking this transfer using every legal means possible to regain control of the winery. His main argument in this dispute that has been raging for years: The two spouses had granted each other a mutual right of first refusal, which Jolie violated.
