A stroke changed Michael Hartl’s life. But he fought his way back onto the stage. Now the memory is coming back.
It was a drastic event: The pop singer Michael Hartl (74) suffered a stroke in the morning hours of March 10, 2022. The musician himself initially couldn’t remember the dramatic minutes and hours. Until now, “Until recently, I didn’t know what happened that morning in our house in Munich. The days that followed were also gone. The whole thing was erased from my mind.” But now his memory returns: “How I’m gasping for air, reaching for the water bottle on the bed – and it falls out of my hand.”
His wife Marianne Hartl (71) also talks about the bad situation in the interview: “This moment shaped us. There was the shock that everything could be over all of a sudden.” Both of them slept restlessly the night before the stroke because Michael wanted to travel to Ukraine with a convoy of relief supplies. At four o’clock Marianne noticed her husband wheezing: “I spoke to him, but Michi couldn’t articulate himself.” She quickly suspected what was going on and immediately called the emergency doctor.
A blood clot in the brain that was blocking a vessel was then removed in an operation. The singer was in an artificial coma for four days and then had to relearn how to speak and walk. His right side was affected and his vocal cords were also paralyzed. Now the two have changed their lifestyle: In addition to changing their diet, the two of them are also exercising a lot, Michael is also taking an afternoon nap every day and starting golfing again.
This is how Michael Hartl thinks about sex in old age
However, the fear of another sleep attack is always there, and he also listens to himself a lot. The fact that he now remembers his “horror day” is a good thing because it shows that he is getting better and better. However, his medical history apparently does not affect the shared tenderness, as he explained in a “Bunte” interview: “Sex is important in old age,” said Hartl. It strengthens the connection and people simply need that. Incidentally, his wife Marianne still has a beautiful figure and he loves her even more when she is beautifully dressed.
Hartl also chatted about his first time in a birthday interview on the occasion of his 75th birthday on March 18th: “I was 13 and she was 27. That’s how it happened.” On the way home she stood at the monastery wall and asked if I had a light. I did!” The two then went a little way into the forest: “It was cold – but great!” Afterwards he never saw the woman again, but the encounter shaped his motto for life: “Anything goes. You can do everything.”
At the end of last year, Marianne and Michael announced the end of their careers after 50 years on stage. They would want to retire and not sacrifice their “golden years” for a career. The two are currently on a big farewell tour. Their last appearance at the Congress Center in Suhl was actually supposed to take place at the end of April. However, due to high demand, additional concerts have now been announced.
