Actress Jessica Biel advocates for child-friendly education about periods – and speaks openly about it with her sons.
The US actress Jessica Biel (42) is a mother of two children and is committed to destigmatizing women – including in raising her own children. That’s why she integrates her period into the everyday life of her sons Silas (8) and Phineas (3), with whom she speaks openly about it.
Jessica Biel doesn’t hide her cycle
In one, Justin Timberlake’s wife (43) answered some of her fans’ questions on this topic, in preparation for the publication of her book “A Kids Book About Periods”.
An anonymous fan asked the actress how exactly she talks to her sons about their periods. Biel replied, “Well, I don’t have all the answers, but my way is I just tell them the truth about what’s going on with me and how I feel.”
Although she approaches discussions about this “carefully” and “slowly”, she doesn’t hide anything. According to Biel, one way to talk to your children about this seems to be to “give them the correct definitions of these terms and phrases related to reproductive health,” she reveals.
With her book she wants to refute the taboo topic
, why she wants to use her book to destigmatize the topic of the female cycle for a younger audience. “I’ve always believed that we need to normalize the discussion about menstruation, and as a parent, writing this book seemed like a natural way to include children in the discussion from the beginning,” she told US magazine.
The educational book was created in collaboration with PERIOD, a nonprofit organization that works to eliminate “period poverty and stigma” through education and advocacy. “A Kids Book About Periods” is scheduled to hit shelves in early May.
