The tourist areas enabled by Minturdep are accommodation, vehicle and equipment rental, transportation, tourist attractions, travel agencies, regional products, excursions, tourist centers, gastronomy and entertainment and leisure.
The measure was proposed to help lift the fall of some US $ 3,600 million in the tourist movement in 2020 (from 5,200 to 1,600), the disappearance of 85,000 jobs and the closure of almost 2,000 hotels -the largest business sector. affected- and in the last two months of that year it billed about $ 10,000 million.
The plan was considered a success and its second edition was launched in mid-August 2021, with the expectation of tripling those revenues and reaching 30,000 million in turnover, as an optimistic goal according to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens.
However, by the 20th of that month, in its first week the program reached $ 6,300 million, 60% of the total of the two months that the 2020 edition lasted, and two weeks later it was 70% above the 2020 Preview, with a turnover of $ 17,000 million and more than a million beneficiaries.
On that occasion, Lammens said that “Previaje is the most important public policy in the history of tourism; a case of success recognized in the world”, referring to expressions collected in other countries and international tourism forums.
The upward trend of the program continued and at the close of the annual balance, in December, it had been used by more than 3 million tourists and the registered tickets exceeded 60,000 million pesos, and the minister once again expressed his optimism, noting that In the remaining days until the end of the year, it could be seven times what was billed in 2020.
Statistics prepared by the portfolio under his charge indicate that there are more than 15,000 tourism companies registered for pre-sales and that businesses that receive supplies exceed 100,000, while the version for retirees, Previaje PAMI, benefited some 300,000 people from the passive sector and generated revenues of 7,000 million pesos.
This option for older Argentines arose from an agreement between Minturdep and the Comprehensive Medical Care Program (PAMI) in September, with the particularity that unlike the original program it raises the return of tourism spending from 50% to 70% to use on another trip in the country.
The characteristics and the success of the Pre-trip generated interest in several governments, such as those of Peru, Ecuador and Paraguay, whose tourist authorities exchanged information in this regard with those of Argentina.
The World Tourism Organization, made up of official authorities from the area of all the countries that make up the United Nations, expressed its appreciation for the boost that the program gave to the sector during the pandemic, in the post-quarantine period.
The World Travel and Tourism Council, which groups the global private sector, also highlighted the results and the recovery generated, and the Pre-trip was the subject of analysis in its international meetings.
In Argentina, the private leadership and the provincial authorities propose that the plan created for a contingency become by law a State policy for the permanent growth of tourism, which is supported by Lammens and other officials.
At the inauguration of the International Tourism Fair (FIT) of Latin America, in the City of Buenos Aires, the minister announced that the respective project will be presented to the governors, the Argentine Chamber of Tourism and the provincial entities, to later discuss it with the Chief of Cabinet, Juan Manzur, and turn the bill over to Congress.
“We want it to be a very robust law, which leaves Previaje as a State policy, because Previaje was the most important public policy in history in terms of tourism”Lammens argued.
