The US beauty pageant was held for the 100th time this year. The winner comes from Alaska – and also impressed the jury with her response to her use of social media.
In the 100th year of the competition, Emma Broyles from Alaska was crowned “Miss America”. The 20-year-old convinced the judges on Thursday evening at the competition, which was broadcast live on the Internet, among other things with her answer to the question of how she deals with social media.
“One thing I’ve really tried, especially as Miss Alaska, is to show people that I’m real. I have flaws, ”said Broyles. She was diagnosed with a special form of attention deficit disorder.
Behind Broyles were Lauren Bradford from Alabama, Elizabeth Pierre from Massachusetts, Sydney Park from New York and Abigail Hayes from Oregon. Broyles is the first “Miss Alaska” in the history of the competition to be crowned “Miss America”.
The spectacle was first held in 1921 and is now in its 100th year. Little by little, the competition has changed a lot, the swimsuit presentation, which was particularly strongly criticized by women’s rights activists, was abolished a while ago.
