Football: Other jobs for Nagelsmann: carpenter or outdoor guide

What job would Julian Nagelsmann do if he wasn’t a national coach? During a visit to primary school, he provides answers, including questions about his former favorite subjects.

What job would Julian Nagelsmann like to do if he wasn’t already a football coach? The national coach answered the question, which is not only exciting for children, during a visit to a primary school.

“I’ve already thought a lot about that,” said the 36-year-old, adding jokingly in front of the girls and boys. “Especially after I was released from Bayern, I thought for a moment, what do I do now?”

Then Nagelsmann revealed the secret: “I really enjoy carpentry. I like professions that are not so abstract, where you can see what you have done. Like carpentry, for example, where you start with a piece of wood and… The end result is a beautiful piece of furniture. I find that very exciting.”

Nagelsmann’s favorite subjects as a student

The Bavarian native would also be interested in “being an outdoor guide” and bringing people into nature and the mountains. He could then “bring the things I like to do, skiing, ski touring, hiking, climbing, to people. That’s also a nice job that I can well imagine doing after my time as a football coach.”

During a visit to the Essenheim elementary school near Mainz on Monday, Nagelsmann also talked about his favorite subjects as a student. He had two. “One was local history and general knowledge. I really enjoyed learning about animals and plants. I was always outside as a child, much to the chagrin of my mother and the washing machine. But I really enjoyed being in nature and moved in the mountains and was happy to find out something about it,” he said: “The other subject was sports, which I would have liked to have had every day – several hours.”
