Last Monday, the “Twitter world” breathed a sigh of relief when a current photo of Princess Kate was published. For weeks the rumor mill was churning about how she was doing. Friends are now commenting on the situation.
In mid-January, Princess Kate went to the hospital for abdominal surgery. The palace asked for privacy and only revealed that her stay at the London Clinic was expected to last two weeks and she would then recover at home until after Easter, i.e. until April.
The palace did not want to comment on the exact details of the operation or the background. The more weeks went by in which the princess, who is now said to be in Windsor with her family, was not seen, the more the rumor mill boiled, especially on the social media portal “X”, formerly “Twitter”. Memes emerged that humorously addressed why Kate hadn’t been seen yet, and conspiracy theories arose that the princess was in a coma. Things got wilder on the platform under the hashtag “Kate-Gate”.

Then the super scandal. To calm tempers, the palace published a photo of the princess with her children, which agencies around the world withdrew shortly after, citing manipulation. That was also the case, the photo was edited, for which the 42-year-old apologized a short time later on Instagram with a statement. Of course, this brought even more rumors into circulation as to whether Princess Kate was doing well. A friend and adviser to Kate told the Times: “If you want to call out the mistake, Kate didn’t tell her team that she had edited the photo. But she apologized. The photo was a misstep, even if it was “It was about something as innocent as the editing that was supposed to be disclosed. But to tell a story with the cropping and the photo alteration (…) is hypocritical for many photo agencies.”
The all-clear came last Monday: Kate and William were seen at a market and are doing well. A screenshot from a video is circulating online. But of course the worldwide rumors and speculations about the condition of the heir to the throne’s wife did not go past her friends and the palace itself. Prince William is said to be upset, according to a source close to the couple: “(…) He’s not in ‘blame the media’ mode. He’s just very upset that his wife is going through all of this in her recovery and then have to think about making statements about a family photo.”

Another friend of the Princess of Wales finds clear words: “In Kate’s case, there is almost no one in the world whose face, body and clothes are judged more than hers. So it’s completely right that she doesn’t get involved in a game want to let her health in. What happened is exactly what they promised – she would spend two weeks in the hospital and be back after Easter. What would have happened if they had pushed her out of the back seat of a car to wave? She is no show pony.”
The Times report also states that those close to her assume that she and Prince William could comment on their health at some point. A friend says: “They want to be clear and more open, but they will do it when they feel ready.”
