The story of the popular Moonswatch continues: After the last watches with gold hands, Swatch is now releasing a white version with a new function and the astronauts’ favorite dog.
To mark the second anniversary of the Moonswatch, the Swiss watch manufacturer is launching a new model. However, this differs significantly from the rest of the series and instead of the tenth of a second hand there is a moon phase function that shows the current moon phase and counts up to 29 and a half. You should know: The Earth’s satellite needs exactly 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.9 seconds to completely orbit the Earth once.
Swatch celebrates two years of Moonswatch
But not just any moon is depicted, but rather a waning and waxing moon with the cartoon dog Snoopy and Woodstock, his bird. This has a tradition: Snoopy has been the mascot of Nasa astronauts since 1968 and there have been numerous special editions of the real “Moonwatch” from Omega, on which the Moonswatch is largely based.
The Apollo 10 lunar module even bore the name of this famous beagle. Today, the Silver Snoopy Award is still considered the highest honor that NASA astronauts can bestow on people or companies that have made a significant contribution to the success of a mission.
Omega received the award in 1970 because the Apollo 13 astronauts relied on their watches to determine the seconds of rocket ignition for re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere after a system failure. If the clock hadn’t worked reliably back then, a catastrophe could have ensued.
Since then, there have always been Speedmaster models with the Beagle on the dial – always limited and now some extremely expensive.

The “Moonswatch Mission to the Moonphase”, as the new model of the plastic watch is called, is at least not limited. But it is actually more expensive. Instead of 275 euros, 315 euros are due for the new model.
No online sales
Nothing has changed on the watch case. This time, Swatch has chosen a light white as the color, perhaps as a small nod to the Speedmaster with a white dial recently introduced by Omega. The fabric strap is also white.
Two small references to the comic beagle can still be found: In the dark, the words “I can’t sleep without a nightlight” glow on the clock, probably a quote from one of the comics with the world famous beagle. Finally, his paw print can be found on the back.
Swatch points out that the “Moonswatch Mission to the Moonphase” will also only be available in “selected Swatch stores”. As with all other models in the series, there will once again be no online sales, but there are also expressly no limitations.
