Some people get a stuffed pony as a gift for their tenth birthday, others get a wild animal delivered free to their door. Tamara Ecclestone caused horror with the gift for her daughter.
It’s no news that the rich and famous live in a world that, for average Susi and Otto consumers, seems to have been designed by the Brothers Grimm. But what Tamara Ecclestone, the daughter of ex-Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, has now achieved is far more than a celebrity extravaganza. For some, the gift for her daughter “Fifi’s” tenth birthday is nothing less than an offense against nature.
Bernie Ecclestone has money like hay. The family also benefits from this. And the billionaire’s daughter is not afraid to publicly flaunt her luxurious life. Tamara Ecclestone regularly shares snapshots from “everyday life” on her Instagram profile. Including recent pictures from her daughter’s birthday. As is the trend with celebrities, it was presented opulently – lots of decoration, lots of bling and a sloth. Exactly: a sloth.
Ecclestone gives daughter Sloth for her birthday
In the pictures you can see that a real live sloth is hanging on a branch between two Chanel armchairs in the living room of the family villa in London. The ten-year-old poses next to it, beaming and stroking the animal.
The followers can’t believe their eyes and criticize the 39-year-old harshly as “disgusting”, “shameful”, “stupid” and “selfish”. “Sloths are loners who, unlike pets, want to be left alone. They don’t like people either,” writes one commenter, “that sucks.”
Why someone who has enough money to visit wild animals in their natural habitat would instead allow them to be dragged around for the child’s short-term entertainment is absolutely incomprehensible to many of the followers.
Quirky pets
Tigers in bed: the stars’ exotic roommates
In addition to the carelessness regarding animal welfare, the disappointed followers also complain that Ecclestone is conveying false values to her daughter with such gifts. “If you teach her that because she’s rich she can have anything, she’ll want an elephant for her wedding or a tiger for her 18th,” read one comment.
Tamara Ecclestone seems to ignore the criticism. So far she has neither commented on the allegations nor has she responded to her followers’ calls to admit her mistake.
