The death of their children has brought boxer Mike Tyson and singer Bobby Brown even closer together as friends.
Singer Bobby Brown (55) and boxer Mike Tyson (57) have been friends since the late 1980s. The fact that they both had to cope with the death of their children brought them even closer together, like Bobby Brown now “That he is a friend of mine and I have someone I can talk to to get through it because he also lost a child, and just having him as a friend means everything to me,” said the ex-husband of Whitney Houston (1963-2012).
Brown and Tyson rarely address their losses directly, the New Edition singer admits to People: “We try to stay away from it,” he said. Nevertheless, the topic is “always at the forefront,” said Brown. “But we try to keep each other on solid ground.”
Bobby Brown’s daughter died at 22
Mike Tyson lost his young daughter Exodus in an accident in 2009. The then four-year-old accidentally strangled herself while playing. In January 2015, Bobby Brown’s daughter Bobbi Kristina was found unconscious in the bathtub of her apartment. She died in a hospice in July 2015. The cause of death was determined to be brain damage along with a pulmonary embolism caused by the abuse of alcohol, marijuana, opioids and a cocaine substitute. She was 22 years old.
Bobbi Kristina Brown was in a toxic relationship with Nick Gordon, whom she reportedly married in 2013. He was sentenced in 2016 to pay $36 million in damages for allegedly supplying her with the deadly drug cocktail. Gordon died of an overdose himself in 2020.
Bobby Brown founded The Bobbi Kristina Serenity House Foundation to benefit victims of domestic violence. According to allegations that he denies, his own marriage to Whitney Houston was itself characterized by domestic violence and drug abuse. The singer died in 2012 under similar circumstances as her daughter later.
Bobby Brown also lost his son to drugs
On November 18, 2020, Bobby Brown also had to cope with the death of his son. Bobby Brown Jr. died at the age of 28 from a suspected accidental overdose. He came from Brown’s marriage to Kim Ward.
