Hollywood: Jake Gyllenhaal raves about Patrick Swayze

In the remake of “Road House,” the Hollywood star plays the role once played by Patrick Swayze. “I like Patrick so much,” says Gyllenhaal about his late colleague.

In the remake of the action cult film “Road House”, Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal (43) follows in the footsteps of Patrick Swayze, who played the lead role in the original.

Gyllenhaal had a friendly relationship with Swayze until his death in 2009. “I like Patrick so much,” said the US actor to the German Press Agency in London. “He and his wife Lisa were always so nice to me.” The two men appeared together in front of the camera for the 2001 film “Donnie Darko,” with which Gyllenhaal became internationally known.

Tattoos in the film as a reminder

“He was just an original in every way,” Gyllenhaal said of Swayze, whose films shaped his youth. “I grew up with Dangerous Surf, which I saw hundreds of times, and Dirty Dancing and Ghost.” He shot the remake of “Road House” with “absolute respect for the original and for Patrick.” In memory of Swayze, he had some tattoos in the film, said Gyllenhaal, who was not tattooed in real life, but did not want to reveal the exact meaning.

In the remake “Road House”, which can be seen on the streaming service Prime Video, Jake Gyllenhaal plays the former UFC fighter Dalton, who is hired as a bouncer at a rustic bar in the Florida Keys. There he has to deal with brutal rowdies, including Knox, who is played by real UFC fighter Conor McGregor. “I don’t think he’s particularly impressed with my fighting skills,” Gyllenhaal joked about his co-star, with whom he fought tough fights on camera. “But with the help of some very talented people, I did my best.”
