Almost two years after separating from her husband, Shakira is in top form. In an interview she reveals that her husband always stood in her way.
The last time Shakira released an album was seven years ago, until she released “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” on March 22nd. The Colombian appears on the cover with glittering tears – a message to her ex Gerard Piqué.
The former glamor couple separated in the summer of 2022, and a dirty war of the roses began. Shakira accused her ex-husband of cheating on her. The two had been a couple for eleven years and the marriage produced two sons.
Shakira gave up a lot for the footballer, moved to Barcelona for him, put her musical career on the back burner and primarily looked after the two boys. Has released a single at most, but hasn’t released an album for seven years at this point. She told the music magazine “Billboard”: “My priority was my home, my family. I believed in ’till death do us part’.”

On Monday night, the singer appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and accused her ex-husband of stopping her from recording a new album. She gave the reason for the long musical break: “It was the man. Now I’m without a husband. Yes, the man dragged me down. Now I’m free. Now I can work again.”
Referring to her album and its cover, the singer said: “Women don’t cry anymore. Now it’s the men’s turn.” She says she was “raw” when recording the 16 new songs on the album. Many a day she felt as if she had a knife between her teeth as she picked up all the broken pieces of her heart from the floor and glued them together: “Music was my glue,” said the 47-year-old.
But if she was able to transform all the “pain, anger and frustration into creativity, productivity and resilience”, then the singer’s involuntary separation was good for at least one or 16 new things.
