Christina Applegate didn’t talk openly about her feelings during her cancer battle: she “lied her ass off.”
Christina Applegate (52) did not deal openly and honestly with her breast cancer in 2008, as she now admitted in a podcast. Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer in her mid-thirties and underwent a double mastectomy.
Nevertheless, she would have put on a good face for evil at the time, Applegate now reports in: “When I had breast cancer at the age of 36, I walked around and was the good girl who said, ‘Oh, I love my new breasts,’ which were scarred and… were broken. What was I thinking?”
Tears every evening
The actress also remembers her first interview about the disease, in which she “lied her ass off”: “Everything I said was a damn lie. I was trying to convince myself of something, and I I think that doesn’t help anyone.” Although she would have immediately set up a foundation that raised millions to enable women to have examinations, Applegate still suffered from the situation. “Yes, we did a good thing, but in the background I was taking my bra off and crying every night. And I wish I had said that.”
A friend who also spoke publicly about her cancer was advised by her own experience to be honest. So she asked her to delete a social media post in which she had written: “If there is anyone who can beat cancer, it is me.” Applegate spoke to her conscience: “Take it down right now, because someone’s mother just died, and she was pretty strong too. Someone’s daughter just died, someone’s sister just died, someone’s father just died Died from it. Take it down.” Instead, the friend should be “honest every step of the way during your chemo, your radiation, all that stuff.” Applegate is convinced that this would really help people.
Applegate’s MS disease: fear of the shower
The actress is now extremely open about her own medical history. In 2021, Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This time she doesn’t leave out any negative detail in public – from the weight gain to the frustration that has accompanied her ever since. Applegate 2023, among other things, said that she showers less often because she is afraid of falling in the glass cabin. And explained: “With MS there is never a good day. You just have little shitty days.”
Last year, the “Dead to Me” actress indicated that she wanted to retire from acting due to the illness. She recently reiterated the decision at the Emmy Awards.
