Stefan Raab celebrates his big comeback in the boxing ring in his revenge against Regina Halmich. Does that sound too good to be true? It probably is.
Sly Stefan Raab hasn’t forgotten anything. Almost ten years after his retirement from TV, he emerges like a phoenix from the ashes, uses his previously orphaned Instagram account, and immediately pulls off a coup. The mysterious video, which hints at a possible comeback by the former “TV Total” presenter, was streamed more than 61 million times within three days. And that despite the fact that Instagram doesn’t even have half as many users in Germany.
Now the cult presenter has followed up with a second video. In it, Raab actually announces that he wants to get into the boxing ring again against Regina Halmich. Can he really be serious?
It is absurd that Stefan Raab will return to the screen again. But the fact that he allows himself to be beaten up a third time by the undefeated flyweight world champion is absolute madness. Actually. Or? Although even die-hard fans can’t really believe that the surprising Instagram videos could be anything other than an April Fool’s joke, they do arouse desire. The desire for a Raab comeback is great and has existed since the day he left.
Is Stefan Raab really planning to return to TV in boxing gloves?
The idea that he could possibly actually fulfill this and also with a revenge against Halmich, which would be an absolute TV hit, is enough to trigger euphoria devoid of any rational thinking. The whole thing is fueled by comments like those from rapper Katja Krasavice, who promises Raab: “When the fight comes, you’ll get free access to my Onlyfans for life, Stefan.” And reality TV star Evelyn Burdecki announces that she wants to be the number girl in the fight.
In the opening video, which was published on Good Friday, Stefan Raab, at the begging of his former intern Elton, agreed to “do something” again if he managed to get him nine million followers within three days. Raab left it open in the video what that could be. The deadline has now passed and Elton has failed. The Instagram account is still far, far away from having nine million followers. It is currently at around 2.8 million (as of April 1st, 12:30 p.m.), around two million more than at the start of the challenge. In the follow-up video, Raab supposedly allows himself to be persuaded to want to compete against Halmich again.
The date for the fight seems to have already been set. The video talks about the “Final Fight” on September 14th, tickets will go on sale from April 2nd. Regina Halmich also shared the announcement video on her Instagram account, but without comment.
However, several details from the video can make you suspicious. Starting with the fact that the video was published on April 1st. Raab also describes Elton as a “brutally bad actor”, which could already be an indication of a fake. In addition, Raab can be seen in the video, but as a thickened version of himself and disguised almost beyond recognition – he is wearing a fat suit, a beard, sunglasses and a cap. Raab has always placed great value on his privacy, and even more so now that he is no longer in front of the camera. Last but not least, Raab’s cap is emblazoned with the enigmatic acronym “NWSDWH,” which has sparked wild speculation online.
Stefan Raab – master of confusion
How big the fans’ confusion is can be read in the comments under the video: “How can you play with our feelings like that”, “Even the confusion is confused” and “If this is an April Fool’s joke, we’re coming to get you.. . all of us almost 3 million!!!”.
Many fans cannot and do not want to believe that Raab is coming back after so many years with such an elaborate video just to play an April Fool’s joke. Instead, various theories surrounding the supposed comeback are now circulating. Some suspect that the video is a PR coup to push the new TV format from Raab’s production company, which is launching for the European Football Championship. “The RTL EM Studio – All games, goals, emotions” will be moderated by Jan Köppen and – yes, exactly! –Elton.
Or did cannabis legalization inspire Raab to write a new song? After all, it wouldn’t be the first time he sang about smoking weed. More than 20 years ago, Raab scored a hit with “Wir kiffen”, and in 2002 he followed up again with “Give the Hemp Free”. Will the supposed pre-sale for the Raab-Halmich boxing match ultimately turn out to be the record release? Whatever the answer to the mystery, the videos are already a huge success.
